Without further adieu, part 2 of our 2013 ring roundup! If you missed out on part 1, check it out here.
Although not all of our choices for “Classic” rings are your typical solitaire (we’re looking at you knot ring), what they do have in common is clean lines and a stunning simplicity. To us, that’s classic and beautiful!
1 Knottedrush Ring by Bario-Neal / 2 Perfect Bezel Set Engagement Ring by Turtle Love / 3 Infinity Ring by Sharon Zimmerman / 4 Infinity Band by Carla Caruso via Clay Pot / 5 Me + You Band – Carla Caruso via Clay Pot / 6 Bi-Level Gold Ring by Laura Preshong / 7 Raw Diamond Water Ring by Rebecca Overmann via Clay Pot / 8 Yucca Ring by Bario-Neal
I totally geek out over things that are personalized… Maybe it comes from the fact that my full name is spelled the less common way (MegHan vs. Megan), and so as a kid, I could never find pencils, license plate key-chains, and other such tchotchkies with my name spelled right… So, yeah, you know I’m totally loving the blatant personalization of putting a name/quote on your ring, but also the less obvious Roman Numerals (channel the inner JayZ & Beyonce with a lot less pain), and wait, what, you can put your actual finger print on a ring? Sign me up – and don’t forget the H in Meghan!
No self respecting ring roundup would be complete without some super blingtastic options. Keep in mind, bling & indie aren’t mutually exclusive… You can find some real yowza sunglasses required sparkly bits that are super unique. Like the ones below. Which we found for you, cause we’re awesome like that.
1 Cleopatra’s Ring Lauren Wolf Jewelry via Catbird / 2 Suri Ring by Katie Diamond via Catbird / 3 Horizon Solitaire by Turtle Love / 4 Diamond Star Ring by Adel Chefridi via Clay Pot / 5 One-of-a-Kind Gray Diamond Solitaire Anne Sportun via Clay Pot / 6 Picture Frame Solitaire by Megan Thorne via Clay Pot / 7 Split-Shank Pave Halo Solitaire by Precision Set via Clay Pot / 8 Black Diamond Solitaire with Raw Halo by Todd Reed via Clay Pot / 9 Elizabeth Halo Ring – Laura Preshong
Super added bonus *Thoughts on Mangagement Rings*
You’ll notice that in several of these categories, we’ve added a “mangagement” option… There’s a lot of debate on the interwebs about “mangagement” rings (which my spellcheck really, really wants to call management rings – SO not the same!). Anyway, there are some folks out there who say that the idea of mangagement rings is just something that was dreamed up by the WIC to sell more shiny stuff. I’m sure in some instances, that’s totally the case. However, outside of the US, mangagement rings are not a new thing… Per my good friend Wikipedia:
In some countries outside from the Western world, it is common for both men and women wear engagement rings. In many Lutheran sects often the man wears an engagement ring. The rings are often in the form of a plain band of a precious metal. Sometimes, the engagement ring eventually serves as the wedding ring for the man. In Brazil, for example, the groom and bride-to-be usually wear a plain wedding band on the right hand during the course of their engagement. After the wedding, the band is moved to the left hand. In Argentina, it is also known for the groom and bride-to-be to wear a plain silver band on the left hand while engaged. Then, after the wedding a silver band is either replaced with the wedding ring or moved to the right hand.
So there’s that. And ultimately, I’ve got to say, if you don’t want to be suckered by the WIC, and you think mangagement rings are a giant conspiracy theory dreamed up by Kay, Jared, et. al., then don’t buy one – or if you really want to, buy one from a small business/independent jeweler like several of the ones featured in our roundup. The same principles apply to shopping for a mangagement ring as they do with any other major purchase – make sure you’re getting quality goods that you (and your significant other will) love. You can’t be a sucker if you don’t let yourself be!
Finally, these are the circumstances which I think it’s totally bitchin’ to consider a mangagement ring:
-If you are a man who wants to propose to your soul-mate who happens to be a man, then give him a management ring! Yay for equality (in some states – & a big fat boo to the others).
-If you are a lady who wants to propose to your soul-mate who happens to be a man, then give him a management ring! Yay for equality – ladies CAN propose too!
-If you are a lady or a man who was proposed to by your soul-mate who happens to be a man, and you want to propose right back, give him a management ring! Yay for equality – celebrate the fact that you and your partner are truly equals!
End of the day, ring or no ring, bling or no bling, what matters is that you’re happy. So, go make that happen!
